Lee Roy Selmon's life is a combination of football scholarship, family service and community involvement. One of the first things he did is to help the Selmon relatives. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. They raised nine children on a Eufala farm. Also, he was one of three siblings that represented Oklahoma on the field of football. The three brothers all made All-America. One year 1973 Lucious Jr. Dewey and Lee Roy were starters. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's most effective lineman. During his three-year tenure as Oklahoma's starting quarterback and Sooners' starting quarterback, they went 32-1-1 and won two national titles. A third scholarship saw him named an National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon received his bachelor's degree in education. Lee Roy was involved in volunteer work ten hour per week throughout his college years. After graduation, he landed in Tampa playing nine years for the Buccaneers was all-pro three times and started an entrepreneurial career. The year 1988 was the first time he began working as an Account Relation Officer at First Florida Bank in Tampa. He worked for the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute as well as the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It's no wonder in 1982 the Junior Chamber of Commerce named him as one of the country's 10 outstanding young men. Lee Roy, a 6-2-inch higher and weighing in at more than 256 pounds when he played in the college level as a player, captained his team for the year 1975. In 1993, he joined the University of South Fla's athletic department as its Director of Athletics as an associate. In 1993, the College Football Hall of Fame was named for him as a member in the year the year 1988. GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994. Pro Football Hall of Fame In 1995. The Selmons' parents Lucious and Mary Selmon Jr. have been awarded the Distinguished American Award in 1989 from the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation.
